Project
The project aims to restore water connection between the Baltic and Black sea in a programmatic way, according to contemporary needs and ways of living. The idea is to create a network of development along the waterways, A FLOATING ARCHITECTURAL NETWORK: a kind of new floating city moving from place to place, promoting trade, tourism and economy on its way.
This “floating caravan”, by interacting with different realities along the river, could create new scenarios, either standing in a place or moving elsewhere with new configurations. Being placed in the midpoint of this connection, Kiev will be completely involved in it, becoming a big harbour, an archipelago of islands.
Can a fluid configuration of urban elements be the answer to the uniformity of contemporary cities? Can a floating urbanism be a new possibility for the city to create unexpected relationships? Can it coexist with the current one?
The proposal is the restoration of the water connection between Gdansk and Istanbul where it would be possible to make “fragments of cities” navigate, connecting urban fragments of different nature and allowing the city to finally “Go DRIFTInG”.
Fragments would start to dissolve, fragments would become unique identities, cities would displace losing certainties, places would meet other places carrying their stories, finally becoming “islands into the stream”.
